The second window of the Moses triplet has bolts of lightning, Moses with two stone tablets, and two separated waves of water. The two separated waves of water represent the parting of the waters of the Red Sea through which the Israelites escaped Egypt, a clear example of God’s protection of His people. (Ex 14: 1-36)
The bolts of lightning
recall the appearance of God to Moses on Mount Sinai, in order to enter
into old covenant with the Israelites. The theme of this covenant
was “I will be your God, if you will be my people.” God was calling
the Israelites to be his holy people, so that the blessings of God could
come to and through them. In short, the Israelites became members
of God’s Family through this covenant. The two stone tablets depict
the 10 commandments. They indicate the conditional nature of the
covenant. If they were to remain God’s People, they had to keep the
commandments. A lesson for us as well. (Ex 19 and 24)
