The third window of the Jesus triplet reflects on the Resurrection, Ascension and Second Coming of our Lord. This window has a tomb with a stone rolled aside and containing only a burial face cloth. It also has rays from heaven, a charcoal fire, fish, and a cloud.
The tomb is a clear reference to the resurrection and the events surrounding it. (Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20) The rays from above recall the approval of the sacrifice of Jesus by his Father, who glorified him by raising him from the dead. (Acts 2: 24) The charcoal fire with fish recalls the third appearance of Jesus to his disciples on the shores of Galilee the after his resurrection. The fish recall the ichthus (Greek for fish), an early Christian symbol. The ichthus was an acronym for “Jesus Christ God’s Son Savior” It was used during periods of persecution to indicate sites where the Eucharist would be celebrated.. Here it also has Eucharistic overtones in that some of the post resurrection appearances Jesus was recognized in the breaking of bread. (Luke 24:13-35) Finally, the cloud recalls Christ’s Ascension (Acts 1:6-11) as well as his Second Coming at the end of time. (Luke 21:27, Revelation 1:7, 1 Thessalonians 4:17)
