The first window of the Jesus triplet recalls of events of Christ’s life. This window includes water from a shell, a caduceus, a scroll, a basket of bread, and a chalice. The shell and flowing water recalls the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist at the beginning of Christ’s public ministry. (Matthew 3:13-17) The caduceus signifies his healing ministry with its power over sin and illness. (Isaiah 35:5, Luke 7:22) The scroll reflects Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament Prophecies, as well as his teaching and preaching ministry.
Finally, the cup
and bread are reminiscent of the feeding of the multitudes and the Eucharist.
This Eucharist is the New Passover Meal instituted at the Last Supper.
It has a parallel position in the New Covenant to the Passover Meal of
the Old Covenant. While the original Passover Meal recalls the Exodus
and Covenant establish at Mount Sinai, so the new Passover meal recalls
the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. It also renews our
New Covenant established at Calvary, as the Jewish Passover Meal renews
the Old Covenant.
