This program is made up of classes for children Pre-school (age 3) through 6th grade. They are held once a week on Sunday Mornings (9:45 to 11 am) or Wednesday Evenings (6:45 to 8 pm). During the 2nd Grade Year, children will be preparing for First Reconciliation in the Fall and First Communion in the Spring.
The Director of Religious Education is Kathleen Armistead. She is in her 7th year of running this program and has brought energy, creativity and compassion to the program. The teachers in the program are volunteers from our parish. We have over 40 teachers and aides helping our children learn more about their faith every week. The program also requires the parents to make sure that their children attend Mass on a weekly basis and asking their children about what they are learning in their classes. During the 2nd grade year, parents must take an active role in their children’s prepation for First Reconciliation and First Communion.
If your child is not attending Columbia Catholic School, this program is a means for them to continue their faith building. At their baptism, you, as parents, made a commitment to raise your child in the Catholic faith. This program is the way for you to carry out your commitment.
