Readers are the lay ministers who proclaim the readings and certain other prayers from the ambo during Mass. This ministry requires good speaking skills, along with the ability to convey emotion and content without distracting the focus of the congregation. In addition, some preparation is required during the week, as the Reader should know the assigned reading(s) well enough to avoid stumbling over unusual names, words, or syntax.
You can find the daily readings on the USCCB website: Daily Readings.
If you are unsure how to pronounce a Biblical name or place, you can go here: Pronunciation Guide.
Each entry includes a recording, allowing you to hear the pronunciation as well.
