Eucharistic Adoration

What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction are special liturgical rites of the Church wherein the Most Blessed Sacrament is exposed in a special vessel (the monstrance) for the faithful to worship it. We worship the Blessed Sacrament because it is Jesus Christ himself under the appearance of bread. Eucharistic Adoration is a good complement to participation at Mass, leading to it and flowing from it.

Benediction concludes Eucharistic Adoration, including some hymns, prayers, and a special blessing imparted with the Blessed Sacrament itself over the people who have gathered.

We can always go before the Lord in the tabernacle to pray, but Eucharistic Adoration allows us to adore God in a more solemn way.

When is Eucharistic Adoration?

Our Lady of Lourdes has Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every second Tuesday of the month from 9:00 AM (after the 8:30 Mass) until Benediction at 7:00 PM.

The Church requires that the Blessed Sacrament must be attended at all times while exposed in Adoration. Therefore, in order to keep this privileged time, we must have commitments to attend. We try to keep a minimum of 3-4 people committed to one hour time slots thoughout each Adoration day, so that no one has to be present every single month. If you would be able to make such a commitment, please call 445-5829, 881-6842, or 443-5108 to sign up. If you have committed and later find that you will be unable to attend on a given date, please also call so that the coordinators can make sure there will be someone present.
