Bylaws

Women of Lourdes

Article I - Name

The name of this group shall be Women of Lourdes at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Columbia, MO.

Article II - Object

The object of this group shall be the socialization and spiritual growth of the parish family.  It will support the needs of the parish and be the umbrella organization for various groups of women who meet to share an interest.

Article III - Members

Membership includes all women of the parish who are 18 years of age and older.

Article IV - Dues

There shall be no annual membership dues.

Article V - Officers and Elections

Section 1. Officers.  The officers shall be a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary and a Treasurer.  These officers shall perform the duties prescribed by these bylaws and by the parliamentary authority adopted by the group.

Section 2. Nominating Committee. 

A Nominating Committee of three members shall be formed at the meeting preceding officer elections.

  1. It shall be the duty of this committee to nominate a candidate or candidates for each office and report to the general membership.  Additional nominations from the floor shall be permitted.  Consent of the nominee shall have been attained.

 

Section 3. Term of Office.  Officers shall be elected to serve a term of one year.  Elections shall be held at the general meeting in September.

Section 4.  Vacancies in Office.  A vacancy in an elective office other than that of the President shall be filled at the next regular meeting.

  1. Nominations shall be from the floor and election by ballot.  In the event of only one nominee, the election shall be by verbal acclamation.
  2. In the event of a vacancy in the office of President, the Vice-president shall automatically succeed to that office.

 

Article VI - Duties of Officers

Section 1.  The president shall preside at the meetings; appoint all standing and special committees not otherwise provided for, and have signature on all bank accounts.

Section 2.  The Vice-President shall assist the President; shall, in the absence of the President perform the duties of that officer and in the event of a vacancy in the office of President, automatically succeed to that office.

Section 3.  The Secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings of the group, conduct the correspondence of the group and maintain the Bylaws by entering all amendments.

Section 4.  The Treasurer shall deposit all funds in the Women of Lourdes account, disburse funds for bills due, and prepare financial reports.

Article VII - Meetings

Section 1.  Monthly meetings will be held with notice of those meetings published the preceding two weeks in the parish bulletin.  In the event of an emergency, the President may call a meeting, cancel a meeting, or change a meeting date.

Section 2.  Special meetings may be called by the President or shall be called at the request of ten members.  The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in the call.  Except in cases of emergency at least five days notice shall be given.

Section 3.  Five members shall constitute a quorum.

Article VIII - Committees

Section 1.  The standing committees shall be:  Communications, Funeral Luncheon, and Welcoming.

Section 2

  1. The Communications Committee shall inform, publicize and promote social and spiritual activities for the Women of Lourdes.
  2. The Funeral Luncheon Committee organizes funeral luncheons, working with the Monthly Teams.
  3. The Welcoming Committee will participate in activities to welcome new women parishioners and their families.

 

Section 3.  Such other committees, standing or special, shall be appointed by the President as necessary.  The President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee.

Article IX - Monthly Teams

There shall be 12 teams and they will each serve for one month.  A team will be composed of 2-4 members.  Volunteers will be solicited for these positions.  They will assist in attaining help for coffee and doughnuts, funeral luncheons and other special events as needed.  They will work from a list of volunteers maintained by the Secretary and updated by the Welcoming Committee and Parish Office.

Article X - Parliamentary Authority

The rules contained in the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern in all cases to which they are not inconsistent with these bylaws and any special rules of order the group may adopt.

Article XI - Amendments

These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting, or has been published in the Sunday Bulletin of Our Lady of Lourdes prior to the meeting at which it will be considered.
